Saying goodbye to Khao Lak once again

La daabacay: 05.03.2018

Once again, the day arrived that I dread on every vacation. The day before departure! So today, it was time to enjoy the last rays of sunshine on the beach (if it didn't rain again...) and pack our suitcases.

Stomach problems...

Unfortunately, Luke had caught a wonderful stomach flu on this exact day. Which is, of course, incredibly advantageous for the journey back... However, since I had already been struggling with the same problem days ago, but it was already over after a day, we could be almost certain that it would be better again by tomorrow. However, it was still not pleasant. What was really strange was that both of us were struck with the same thing on different days. We didn't have this problem at all on our first trip to Thailand.

A little bit of beach

So I spent the day lying on the beach with Jenny and Markus. Luckily, I wasn't alone. It was really annoying that Luke had to spend our last day in the room. Occasionally, I checked the room to see if everything was still alright. After all, I was still able to enjoy the last day, the weather was quite nice. Later, Jenny and I treated ourselves to a Thai massage for about 7 euros. However, it started to thunder and pour rain during our massage. We only hoped that Markus had saved our things. After the massage, we walked back to Jenny and Markus' room in the rain. Thankfully, he had also taken my things, including my camera, and saved them from the rain.

Evening atmosphere

Fortunately, Luke was feeling somewhat better again. At least he could get out of bed again, so we could spend the evening outside and admire the sunset on the beach.

Afterwards, the four of us went into town to eat and drink. Well, at least three of us did. Luke settled for a tiny portion of dry rice that he could barely eat.

Journey back

We didn't get much sleep, we had to leave in the middle of the night to catch our flight. So we bid farewell to Jenny and Markus (and of course mentally to Khao Lak) with a heavy heart before we were picked up at the hotel. We wished them better weather and drove into the night. Despite the fact that the weather wasn't really good this time, saying goodbye was still very difficult for me. Who knows when we will come here again? But at least everything went smoothly with the return flight. We flew from Phuket to Dubai again (where we had cheeseburgers at McDonalds at 5 a.m.) and from Dubai to Frankfurt.

Conclusion

All in all, we didn't have as much luck with the weather during our second vacation here. It rained a lot, the sea was often rough and not suitable for swimming, and the whole vacation just didn't measure up to the first time. We hardly went on any excursions, previously booked excursions were canceled one after another due to the bad weather, and the only trip that took us to the Surin Islands was a complete disappointment. Otherwise, we mostly stayed in Khao Lak and did a few excursions on our own. Which was also nice, as we got to know the area even better, but I would have liked a bit more activity. The hotel was great at least, we would definitely come back! However, after this vacation, I have decided not to come back during the rainy season. The weather is just too unpredictable for me. Nevertheless, I have to mention that so much rain is quite unusual for this time. We were just unlucky. However, one thing is for sure: we will definitely come to Khao Lak again, for the third time. And probably also a fourth, fifth, sixth time :) We simply fell in love with this place so much that this won't be our last visit.

The next trip to Thailand is planned for December 2018! :)
