Day 182 - one day in Bangkok

Publikovaný: 11.02.2020

Hello my dears

For today we planned to wake up at 6:15 am and be at the pool at 7 am to photograph the sunrise. But when the alarm went off, it was still dark outside and the smog blocked the view. So: snooze activated and turned back in bed. After 10 minutes the same. We played this game six or seven times for sure - sunrise? Where?

Anyway, the bed was incredibly comfortable! We finally turned off the alarm and slept until 9 am. Seriously, it felt like sleeping on clouds! Even when we were fully rested, neither of us had the urge to get out of bed :).

But we made it, packed everything and enjoyed the amazing pool and the view over the city for about an hour.

When checking out, I gathered all my courage and asked if we could possibly go to the rooftop pool for a while. I explained to the lady that we are travel bloggers and would love to write about her hotel - including the world-famous pool. Kevin and I didn't think our chances were high, but we still wanted to try. And guess what!!! We were allowed up!!!! Actually, we weren't supposed to take pictures, but you never know... So we gladly took the backpack up :)

The same man who showed us our room led us upstairs and explained everything. He said that it is not usual for hotel guests of the "Residences" to be allowed to use the suite pool and that we are an exception :).

The pool really lived up to its promises and definitely deserves the first place in the top infinity pools! After timidly asking again, we were even allowed to take a few photos - discreetly, as it is actually not allowed! At that time, there were only two guests in the pool. We try to hide them in the pictures (if you're not allowed to take photos anyway, this is the least we can do :)).

Unbelievable that we got a glimpse of the pool and were even allowed to take photos. After that, we were really amazed.

After checking out, we continued to the "Mahanakhon Skywalk".

There should be a platform on top of this hotel that is made entirely of glass - we had to see that!

We arrived, bought a ticket for CHF 48.- (for both of us) and shortly after that, we took the elevator to the top floor of the hotel. The elevator ride alone was a highlight! The entire walls were screens that simulated us climbing up in a kind of jungle. In addition, the elevator was so fast and quiet! We reached the destination in a few seconds.

The view was already really great after the elevator ride, but it got even better! We took another lift to go three more floors up and reached the terrace.

The Skywalk looked really cool! But first, we wanted to go to the highest terrace and take photos. What a view that was! We could hardly believe it and ran back and forth on the terrace with our cameras. Then it was time for the Skywalk...!

Guys, if you ever go to Bangkok, you have to try this! You stand in front of the Skywalk, look down and see how it goes hundreds of meters down. Everyone cautiously puts their first foot down, pulls the second one and is initially skeptical whether the construction really holds. After a few seconds, we got used to the feeling of "floating on a glass plate" and really enjoyed it. A man approached us and asked if he should take photos of us. Gratefully, we handed him our camera and thanked him multiple times. After taking several shots, he approached us again and wanted to invite us for a beer. Why not? At first, we were a bit confused about the invitation, but when he quickly mentioned that he was from America, everything became clear. He is currently traveling with his colleague (who is from Japan) here in Bangkok and enjoying life. We had really good conversations and lots of laughs! Yep, it was a really fun beer :).

We initially estimated to spend 30 minutes there, but in reality, we spent at least two hours on the roof of this hotel :).

Alright, let's continue! We were hungry... Sooo hungry... After walking around for a while in search of a suitable restaurant, we gave up and took a taxi to the next "point of interest". The journey was supposed to take about 35 minutes. After about 10 minutes, however, we passed by the food market from yesterday and spontaneously got off to eat something. It was delicious...!

Freshly strengthened and with full stomachs, we looked for a taxi again. You won't believe it... When we told the driver where we wanted to go, he said that he wouldn't go there because of the heavy traffic and: laughed at us! How mean!

Well, the next taxi took on the ride and took us an hour to the next destination: the "Airplane Graveyard".

This is an airplane graveyard. As you all know, we have a passion for wrecks and ruins, so we wanted to take a look at it.

It was really cool! Unfortunately, we were already quite exhausted from the rest of the day (of course, we didn't do much, but the heat, the smog, sooo many impressions...), because this would have been a really fantastic photo location!

After about an hour of staying there, it was already 5:30 pm and we drove to the last stop for today: the hostel.

Once again, the journey took 35 minutes, then we made it.

The hostel is perfect for one night - or rather, for a few hours...

We are already leaving for the Philippines tomorrow at 2 am!

Bangkok was a really great ending for our trip to Thailand, we were able to see and experience so much again!

Now we are looking forward to the next destination and to tell you about our experiences.

See you again tomorrow!
