31st Post - Second Semester

ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ: 26.01.2024

There hasn't been an update from me here for more or less a long time. I don't know exactly what it was, but somehow I didn't do anything that was worth a contribution in itself - but overall I did a lot. In addition, university has started again, which of course has brought more structure and new people into my life.

Here are some cool things I did before and after the cyclone this month:

I went to Carré Cath , the bar district here, every Thursday of this month. Why Thursdays? Because they give free shots there for 3 minutes every Thursday evening. And if you consider that a shot here costs €5, you can save a good €30 - of course I won't miss that :D

Otherwise I went to the Maido again to watch the sunrise (very beautiful!) and to the Rondavelle . Rondavelle is a kind of street festival that takes place every Sunday in Saint Leu , with street food and live music right on the beach, that was really nice :)

Basin 18

I also spent a day near Saint Pierre , in the south, and discovered my new favorite basin: Bassin 18 - it's simply fantastic, even if it's a bit difficult to access. On the same day we also visited Cap Jaune , a huge yellow rock face.

I also looked at an Indian temple, but unfortunately you weren't allowed inside, so you could only view the magnificent rooms from the outside.

But now to the actual topic of the article: The second university semester! The first week is now over and I am really very satisfied. The Erasmus people are all really nice and I think we will have a lot of fun together. It's a much smaller group than my first semester, about 35 (compared to 140 for me). Most of them are German again, although there are also Italians, Spaniards, Dutch, Swiss, Belgians and an American. A few "long-established" Erasmus people and I helped with some of the introductory week, for example with creating a timetable (you may remember how lost I was with that... :D)

I am also very satisfied with my choice of course. Since I actually want to work on my bachelor's thesis this semester, I tried to find days off for it and generally not take too many courses. Now I have Mondays off, Tuesdays an "Introduction to Psychology" course and a translation course, Wednesdays off, Thursdays three open courses, namely "Reunion Island", Introduction to Astrophysics and either an Arabic or Malgsy language course, I'm not quite there yet secure. On Friday I have another course from my Master's in Linguistics, namely "Multilingualism and Creole-French Translation". This could be very useful for my bachelor's thesis, which I want to write about the Creole translation of the French book "Le petit prince".

I also started playing the flute with Lucie again, which is really fun

All in all, I'm really happy with the current situation in terms of my studies :)
