Today, exactly one month from now, will be my last day as an au pair! I can't believe how fast time flies. It feels like just yesterday that I arrived here and met my host family.
On May 4th, the new au pair will arrive and I will fly to New Zealand for two weeks to explore the North Island. So it will be a flying au pair transition! It will definitely be strange to hand over my kids to a different au pair, but I don't want to think about that yet, since I still have a whole month with them.
The last week and weekend were a bit calmer than the previous two weekends, but that was also nice. On Wednesday, after work, I went to the Moonlight Cinema in Sydney with some other au pairs. It's an outdoor cinema in the park where you bring blankets and watch the movie lying on the grass. Luckily, the weather was still good. It was cloudy, but it didn't rain and didn't get too cold when we were lying in the park in the dark. We watched Five Feet Apart, a film about two teenagers with cystic fibrosis. I had just read the book and thought the movie adaptation was really good. Tissues were definitely necessary.
Although I came home late, I wasn't too tired at work on Thursday. As usual, Matthias and I took Sofia to school and then I went with him to gymnastics. After that, Matthias was so exhausted that I actually got him to sleep properly during Quiet Time after four months. During that time, I was able to rest too, and the day passed by quickly.
Originally, I had planned to go to Canberra this weekend and initially had a small group to go with, but one by one, more people dropped out and I didn't feel like going alone. Instead, on Friday evening, I met up with Mira and Lena for cocktails at the Sydney Tower. I hadn't been there before and it was really worth it! First of all, you have an amazing view (especially at night!) and then the observation deck with the bar rotates slowly 360 degrees, so you can just sit comfortably and still see everything.
Even though there are only two months left, there is still sooooo much to do before I return home in June, and I am really happy to make the most of my time. Next weekend, I'm finally going to Cairns, to the Great Barrier Reef, I'm so excited!
To make sure I have enough money for the weekend, tomorrow evening I'm babysitting a bit for a family in the neighborhood. I already know the boys I'll be taking care of because I babysat for them in February, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them again because they are super sweet.
This time it's just a shorter entry, but in the next one, I'll tell you all about Cairns!
