Politics and Culture - In the Center of Lima

E phatlaladitšwe: 11.01.2018

Recently, I visited the center of Lima.

The streets in this district are characterized by the old churches in colonial style, which are also known for their typical balconies.

The core of the capital is the Plaza de Armas, where on the one hand (as with every Plaza de Armas) there is a church and on the other hand the Presidential Palace. On the day I visited the center, this square and some streets around it were unfortunately closed to prevent gatherings for protests against the pardon of former president Fujimori.

Fortunately, there are other attractions in the center, such as the Museo San Francisco - a former Franciscan convent that impresses with its architectural art, beautiful decorations, and its crypts (which unfortunately cannot be photographed) - or the Parliament building.

Also well-known are the Plaza San Martin, where protests often take place, or the huge building of the central post office.

Until recently, you could also visit the viewpoint of San Cristobal near the center, which is located on a hill in the middle of the city and offers a view of the entire city. However, due to the dangerous ascent, buses have repeatedly crashed there and many people have been injured or died. Therefore, this route has now been closed.
