My dear friend Katrin is currently visiting the small island, and in her last week here we are of course going on a few hikes together!
On Tuesday I took the bus to Saint-Paul, where she picked me up in the car after a hike. Then we went to her accommodation (in Le Tampon , in the very south and a bit in the mountains). There we got Creole food and chatted a little while being accompanied by one of the most beautiful sunsets ever :)
Shortly afterwards we were already on our ear, because the next morning we started at 5am.
After a very short night for me due to the new surroundings etc. we set off early in the morning to Piton de la Fournaise, the most active volcano in the world. We drove for about 1.5 hours on partly unconcreted and potholed roads until we arrived at the starting point.
The gray lava rock was really exciting, and sometimes not as gray as it seemed at first glance ;)
We then crawled to the summit for about 2.5 hours, where we enjoyed the wonderful packed lunch from Katrin's landlady. At first I was a little bored with the tour because the lava rock looks the same every meter, but when I arrived I was really excited.
Simply sitting at the crater of an active volcano and looking down is an impressive experience! Then it took about 2 hours to go back down and take the car straight back to Saint Louis, where I took the bus home.
On Friday we'll go back to her place and then we'll go on nice trips again <3
