Today, I went on an excursion with my host family. We went to the fair in Kivik in the morning, which takes place there every July. This is the largest fair in Sweden.
At the fair, there are countless stalls offering many things at affordable prices. It was nice to be there, but personally, it was just too crowded for me. The crowds of people moving around, especially in warm weather, are not pleasant.
So, I was glad to be out of the hustle and bustle and sitting in the car again. We drove about 10km further north, where the megalithic tomb 'Havängsdösen' is located. The 5000-year-old tomb was uncovered during a severe storm in the early 19th century. Until that time, it was buried under the sand. The tomb is located on the coast of the Baltic Sea in a current military area.
It was interesting to look at the stone formation around it and think about it. Because there weren't as many tourists here as at Ales stenar, you could enjoy looking around much more.
After exploring this as well, we continued. In Åhus, there is a very famous ice cream maker with a tradition since 1950. My host family also wanted to show me this, so we went there to have ice cream. I ordered a scoop of blueberry ice cream in a cone. This one scoop, which was as big as three scoops, was in a freshly made homemade cone. The ice cream is really recommended. Very delicious!
Since it was already late, we started making our way home. However, on the way, we stopped again. We wanted to take a brief look at 'Flyinge Kungsgård', a historic stud farm in Skåne. Its roots date back to the early 12th century, making it one of the oldest stud farms in the world. Besides the interesting history of the stud farm, it is also beautiful to look at, but also very extensive.
After this little concluding walk, which rounded off the day nicely, we headed home.
