17.06. / Friday / Estes Park - Denver Airport - Return Flight
We have breakfast in the room, outside it is wet and there was thunderous thunder during the night. At 58°F (14°C) it is not super cold, but due to the wind it is quite uncomfortable. Shortly before 11 am we leave the hotel and take the Scenic Byway on Route 7 southwards.
The path leads through the mountains and a canyon, we see the four thousand meter peaks next to us again, pass through a casino town called Black Hawk and arrive at the airport around 2 pm relaxed. The plane leaves at 6 pm, but based on the experience of the outbound journey, where the reserved seats were no longer available, we want to check in now. The woman at the check-in counter is the same one who said two weeks ago that we cannot pre-reserve certain seats that we wanted. During check-in, she manages to mess up G's credit card in such a way that even after an intensive search and calling out to another passenger, who is suspected to have walked away with the card by mistake, she cannot find it again. We both have to check in an additional piece of luggage, which costs (so far) 50 dollars. In Germany, we have to pay 50 euros, which has always been a strange exchange rate. However, if we had bought our tickets after June 1, 2011, we would have had to pay 70 dollars by now. Real money-grabbing, you can also simply make the flight tickets more expensive...
We drive nearby and sit outside in the sun and quickly eat and drink something, drop off the car, drive back to the airport, go through the lax security checks, and G. gets her credit card back at the gate. It must have been found somewhere...
The flight is indicated as 8:55 hours, but in the end it takes 9:30 hours. The plane is a jumbo again, super cramped and without screens in the front seats. I can't sleep and it's good that this flight also comes to an end at some point.
