Day 22 Unexpected Visit

I'm back in Zimbabwe. The border crossing between Zambia and Zimbabwe is on the dam of the largest man-made lake. Lake Kariba is truly huge and the dam is impressive.

In the afternoon, we were able to explore the shores of the lake.

In our lodge, this time we even had a whole house to ourselves, it was time to relax after the long drive. That works pretty well in a pool with a cold beer.

After dinner, we sat on the terrace for a while, drank beer and had a cozy conversation. Then came the surprise for dessert. Around 10:30 pm, there was a crackling noise in the hedge of our garden and a hippo suddenly appeared in front of us. It was a huge animal, probably about 3 meters long and quite bulky. About 5 meters away from us, it started grazing peacefully and didn't pay us any attention. It leisurely made its rounds in the garden, grazing comfortably and so close to us. The animals are truly impressive. After 2 hours, the performance was over and the hippo disappeared again.
