Laguna Resort in Khao Lak

In this post, I would like to go into more detail about our accommodation where we were going to spend the next two weeks.

We used the first day of our trip to overcome the jet lag. Around noon, we arrived at the Laguna Resort in Khao Lak and had to control ourselves not to just fall into bed. The joy of finally arriving helped us, though.

First of all, we naturally moved into our room. It surprised us with its size. So, the first impression already made us very happy :)

In the resort, we occasionally came across some lizards. Otherwise, the hotel was well-maintained, with many plants and a stream running through it. There were also bungalows right on the beach, but they were a bit too expensive for us.

Tropical Beach

Here, of course, the highlight was the beach! The Laguna Resort is located on Nang Thong Beach. It may not be a typical picture-perfect beach with white sand and turquoise blue sea, but it made up for it by simply being deserted! Hardly a person in sight. That was generally true for the entire Khao Lak region. It may partly have been due to the low season still prevailing. However, Khao Lak is said to generally not be as crowded as many other places in Thailand. We were fine with that! Until then, I could never really imagine that sea water could be warm. Usually, you expect a certain coolness as soon as you put your feet in the water. But not here, where the water is actually the same temperature as the air. Not exactly suitable for cooling down, but quite pleasant for someone like me who gets easily cold!

Rainy Season in Thailand

To say a few words about the low season: it doesn't mean that it rains continuously! We usually had a short shower in the afternoon, which we used to get ready for dinner. Otherwise, we were really lucky with the weather. It was often cloudy, but I don't find that uncomfortable when the temperatures are over 30 degrees Celsius and the humidity is around 90%. However, you can expect a slightly rough sea. We had days with a calm sea, but also some with a quite rough sea, so it was better to swim only in the pool. If that doesn't bother you, you can have a nice vacation in Thailand during the low season too!

Creatures

During our stay, we got to know some creatures. For example, the birds that often settled on the loungers or the tokeh (giant salamander) that stayed above our room door. By the way, it makes very strange sounds that really scared us at night...only after our vacation, we found out that those strange noises came from the large gecko :D

But we particularly liked the hotel dog that wandered around the resort. Yes, I know, you shouldn't pet the dogs there, but try resisting when you're being stared at with puppy eyes! We just love dogs! We lovingly named him 'Bodo'. Until we found out that he was a she...so Bodolinchen was also okay ;)

We booked with breakfast included. Since most hotels in Thailand are built in an open design, you are always outdoors. Whether at breakfast or in the lobby. Which, of course, has the disadvantage that there is no air conditioning while eating. So, you already sweat happily during breakfast in the morning. At least, that's how it was for me! In the tropics, you just have to cope with that. Eventually, you get used to the constant wetness ;) There was also a restaurant on the beach. Every now and then, we treated ourselves to a little something there for lunch.

So?

As you can see, we really liked the Laguna Resort! We would go back there anytime.

At this point, I would like to reiterate that the term 'all-inclusive vacation' should not immediately be associated with 'boredom'. Especially since we had booked the hotel with breakfast included and a flight, which was cheaper than booking separately. On average, we went out every other day. In addition to the things to see in Khao Lak, such as the White Sand Beach, the Bang Niang Market, or the Lamru National Park, we also took some guided tours:
