Villa chillin’

We picked up Laura from Olbia airport on Saturday morning and Alex on Sunday morning, when Laura also picked up the hire car. Both were lazy days otherwise; sunning round the pool, a stroll down to the beach and a few drinks at our local bar on the beach, then out for dinner Saturday and home for BBQ on Sunday. 

Monday was the big day. We were up and out the house by 8am, driving to Cala Gonone to meet our boat for the day. We left the dogs behind and, scarily for me and Jane at least, they were home alone for over ten hours. 

The boat was lovely. It was owned and captained by Leonardo, who was 27 and from Corsica. He had owned the boat for a couple of years which cost 100k to buy and a further 40k to convert from a stripped-down racing yacht to a craft that could be lived on and also was suitable for taking punters like us out for the day. He said that he has sailed for over forty thousand nautical miles, twenty thousand of them solo. As part of that, he had bought the boat in the US and had sailed it solo to the med. 

He also AirBnBs his flat in Corsica while he is in Sardinia for the summer season. He provided  great day and was a lovely lad so we hope he does very well.

We had a lovely day cruising slowly along the coast, stopping at two beaches which we accessible either by boat or by a 2 hour hike. We snorkelled and used the stand up paddleboard, and jumped off the boat. At one point a bunch of fish appeared and we fed them with popcorn, which they seemed to love. 

When we got home, the dogs were very pleased to see us and there were not any emergencies of any sort. Phew!
