Saturday: travel day Sunday: a wetish day on Lago Di Trasimeno
Yesterday was travel day. We said goodbye to the AirBnB house, left the key under the doormat and were away by 7.30am. Not much to note except the journey, that was pegged as 3.5...

Monday’s weather was forecasted to be dry, except for rain around 12pm for an hour, so we decided on a big day out to Assisi. What a delight. It was beautiful at every turn. I usually like to get a few “off the beaten track” pictures, little steps down to a door, that kind of thing, but in Assisi they were everywhere so I was spoilt for choice. There was the big stuff of course, but not one building broke from the beautiful stone look. As Betsy has not been that well I carried her all the way round in the rucksack, and she probably got as many “aaahhs” as Winnie that day. We loved Assisi, and think it’s probably the best place we’ve visited so far.
We returned to our camp late afternoon to find a plague of some unknown flying thing. There were swarming as we walked across any grass or went too near any hedge, and all the vans on the site were covered in them. Yuck!
We finished the day watching the last episode of Vargo, the TV remake, on the iPad. The first series features Martin Freeman as the hapless insurance salesman. The plot loosely follows the film but also has its own vibe. It was violent but enjoyable. We have another 4 series to go.
Tuesday was travel day. We brought our Sardinia ferry forward to Wednesday since the sun is shining all week there, whereas all the mainland has rain. Our journey was only 2.5 hours to get to a site near to Livorno, the port from which we sail. We went via Ikea, to get what turned out to be quite a few bits for the van; a cheap voile curtain to use as a fly screen on the door, some scissors, a face towel, a new deeper frying pan, a circular clothes hanger and a few pegs. We also visited a pet shop to get some more kibble for Winnie, a few tins of dog food, a muzzle (in case we are forced to use one with Winnie on the ferry) and some more tennis balls, since Winnie chews threw them at a great rate of knots.
The site is lovely; it’s in the middle of nowhere, albeit only a couple of miles from the motorway, with a lake and lots of grass for the dogs to run around on. We only partially setup camp tonight since we are only here for a night and have an early start tomorrow.
