Moving on
When Jane went to pay for our stay on Sunday evening, the day before we planned to leave, the lady mentioned that it was a holiday in Italy for the following two days, so to...

Today was another travel day. We packed up in the rain and said goodbye to Italy, to drive two hours to Lake Bled in Slovenia. Crossing the border consisted of nothing more than driving past unmanned huts. Our Bip and Go tag (for auto toll payments) paid for itself in just one toll. Before the border we hit a 20 minute tailback, which turned out to be for the toll booths. The inside lane was painted yellow, and after 5 minutes we realised it was for vehicles with a toll tag, and we happily took it to drive past all the queue and went through the toll gate without stopping. Result.
We stopped off on the way at a pet shop to get Winnie some more kibble food and some tins of meat, and arrived at the site around 1.45om, to absolute carnage. It was a big site but very booked up, and when we arrived there were maybe ten other vans parked in the waiting zone. When I got to reception I was told that there were a handful of pitches available to book, but for one night only, otherwise we could pick a space on the “open pitches” which were a free-for-all space that, if you found something you liked, one of us stood in the spot to reserve the space while the other went to book in. We did that and found a rather nice space facing the fast-flowing river. We checked in and setup camp, and within an hour there were half a dozen other vans parked vans in the area, at all sorts of angles taking whatever space was free between the trees. We were lucky to get the pitch we did.
After setting up camp, we had lunch, then both crashed for a couple of hours. Travellers fatigue maybe.
Early evening After feeding the dogs we strolled in to Bled. It was not the prettiest, but it had a vibe and we sat and had a couple of drinks overlooking the lake. On the way back we walked past a crazy golf course that opened in 1964, history noting it to be the second most profound thing to happen that year (after my birth 😁).
We then had courgette pesto pasta for tea, a cuppa and then retired for the night. We are up early tomorrow for a booked time-slotted trip to a gorge.
