March 16-18
Very basic, but I visited Dublin for St. Patrick's day along with the thousands of other Canadian and American tourists. I was excited to visit Ireland for the first time, but I was more excited to see all of my friends as we were staying in a hostel all together. After many Guinnesses and Jameson shots, I can say I had a pretty fun time in Dublin.
As a Guinness connoisseur, I was definitely geeked out during the Guinness factory tour. The tour was great and there was a bar on the top floor to enjoy some nice views while sipping on some pints. Also the entire weekend was actual Ivey reunion, I swear I saw everybody there, but it was so fun to see everyone and drink with them again. I specifically remember belching Oh Canada with a group of 15 dudes outside of the bar, Nationalism at its finest.
Maybe it was just because it was St. Patty's, but Dublin definitely had a bit of a gritty energy to it. Our hostel was a bit of a shitter, but the city definitely felt a little bit grey and bland compared to other places in European. I think part of the problem was that I was basically drunk the entire two days I was here, so I didn't really get a proper feel for the city's history and sights.
Next time I'm in Ireland I want to proper explore the country and nature, there is so much natural beauty, and the locals are truly hilarious. Also the urban legend is true, the Guinness really is that much better in the homeland. I'll be back Ireland!
