7. Stop Canmore, Alberta

Pubblicato: 23.11.2019

My day in Canmore started with great weather. Even though it was really cold and there was already a layer of ice under the snow, the sun was shining and that made it a bit more bearable. I started at the city's landmark: the sculpture of a big head, as the city was named after a Scot and Canmore translates to 'the big head'. Right next to it is Policeman's Creek, a lake.

The city is traversed by the Bow River, which took me through a beautiful winter landscape to a small viewpoint on Canmore Creek.

After that, I took a walk around Quarry Lake, where you can fish in the summer and is a popular destination for families. In the winter, you can ice skate on it, but unfortunately the ice was not thick enough at this time.

On my way to Nordic Centre Provincial Park, I saw some deer. They were standing calmly right next to the road and were not bothered by me, even though I was walking only about 2 meters away from them. When I arrived at the park, I couldn't complete the round that I had planned because there were already some cross-country skiers on the trail and it was closed for hikers.

Since I was already pretty frozen, I decided to head back. The way back was very steep, so I slipped and slid down instead of actually walking ;) I was rewarded with another breathtaking view though - this time on the other side of the city at the Bow River.
