Today it was time to say goodbye to Lithuania. Our next destination: Riga/Latvia.
However, we still had two destinations in Lithuania on the travel itinerary.
The first destination was the geographical center of Europe. It is located just a few kilometers north of Vilnius. The calculation of such points is always somewhat political and naturally depends on the borders of countries, so it changes from time to time. But currently it lies in Lithuania, and therefore worth a visit for us. It was also nicely presented, see photos.
The second destination on the route was the 'Hill' of crosses in Šiauliai. However, the hill is more of a mound (height: 10m). Originally, the residents erected crosses here for those who fell in the resistance against Russia. Today, it is a pilgrimage site for Catholics from all over the world. There are now over 100,000 crosses ✝️. Some are only a few centimeters tall, while the largest ones are several meters high. Every visitor can set up a cross.
After that, we finally made our way to Latvia.
Our conclusion about Lithuania:
Lithuania has pleased and surprised us greatly. It is very modern, relaxed, diverse, and friendly. And there is a bottle deposit 😆. It feels like home when shopping at Lidl. What is hardly encountered: pushy people and speeders; even the drivers here are relaxed.
