In Rotorua, the earth cooks. This can be seen in many places in the city where steam rises from the ground or ponds bubble.
This is particularly evident in Kuirau Park, where there are many fenced off areas showcasing the thermal activity.
The Goverment's Garden is also beautiful, with the historic Bath House, which now houses the Rotorua Museum.
The thermal activity in Rotorua is also used in some existing spas. The hostel where I stayed there also has a small heated outdoor pool (41°C) - I naturally took advantage of it and had it all to myself :D
