National holiday

Pubblicato: 19.05.2018

On May 17th, Norway celebrates its national holiday in a big way. Everyone hangs the national flag on their house, dresses up in fancy clothes, and celebrates.

Every small town in Norway organizes a parade to celebrate the day. Most of the girls and women wear their traditional dresses, and many of the boys and men wear their costumes or a fancy suit.

The parade in Trondheim included the football team, dance clubs, sports clubs, choirs, musicians, police, military, the mustache club, various student associations...

There was an exuberant joy and happiness on the streets, with singing and dancing.

After the parade, we all ate Sodd, traditional Norwegian food, together at home.

We ended the beautiful day and my time in Norway with a nice walk in the woods.

After a short stopover in Sundsvall (Sweden), I am now on my way to the next farm in beautiful Katrinenholm (Sweden). However, I will make another stopover in Falun on the way. That's where it all started, because in 2017 I had my first workaway experience there, the platform that brings volunteers and host families together. I spent two weeks with a young woman from Germany and her dog to see if Sweden is the country where I want to spend a longer time and if traveling alone is right for me.

The short trip to the small beautiful city by the water confirmed that Scandinavia is the right destination for my longer break.

Furthermore, I have an appointment there today that is literally under the skin...

Last year, I got a compass tattooed on my foot by a great tattoo artist there. Today, I want to get another symbol tattooed there.
