Even the most punctual train in the world is sometimes late

Pubblicato: 11.03.2024

The day started with a wonderful view of Mount Fuji. The sun gradually rose and shone on the side of the mountain - beautiful.

After breakfast we went to the train station. The journey continued to Kyoto. We will spend 4 days there.

We took the bus from Kawaguchiko to the train station in Mishima. We had previously bought tickets online. Everything worked fine. We arrived at the train station around 2 p.m.

Our reserved tickets for the Shinkansen were also quickly picked up from the ticket shop and so we set off towards Kyoto a little later.

The Shinkansen is the Japanese bullet train. It is considered the most punctual and reliable train in the world. We should have covered the 400 kilometers to Kyoto in 2.5 hours.

But things turned out completely differently 😂. Because even the most punctual train in the world is sometimes late. Suddenly we were stuck. The announcement told us that the operators had temporarily stopped operating the Shinkansen on the route and it could be a long time before it resumed.

And so we waited. There were a number of announcements but unfortunately only in Japanese. The English announcement just told us to wait.

We then found out online that birds had probably flown into an overhead power line. After about an hour we continued at full speed. We still arrived in Kyoto, Japan 50 minutes late 😂 — unbelievable.

You have to know that one of the biggest no-gos for Japanese people is being late. It didn't matter to us, we didn't have anything planned anyway.

Conclusion Shinkansen: absolutely cool despite the delay. Super comfortable (this time we traveled 1st class), lots of space - see photo/legroom), very quiet and super fast. We believe that if they existed in Germany, domestic flights would have taken care of themselves.

After a traditional dinner we went to bed. After all, we want to explore the city tomorrow.

By the way, the food we had was rice, tofu, chicken, salad and miso soup. Although we didn't like the latter at all - it has something of the sea 😂 🐟

And that shouldn't be missed: Mount Fuji is definitely worth a trip! We still carry the magic of this place with us. Not only me, but also Siar was absolutely blown away by the place. So: extremely recommended. Small addendum: I would always plan an overnight stay, as this gives you the chance to see the mountain for two days. When we left Mishima the peak was actually hidden behind clouds. Unfortunately I didn't manage to take a photo of it.
