Tepoztlan and Tepozteco Pyramid

Pubblicato: 14.01.2020

Day 1 / Arrival: Travel from Mexico City / downtown to Tepoztlan takes almost 4 hours, including about 45 minutes walking to the hostel. I felt very comfortable at Ekko Hostel with a beautiful view of the mountains. In the evening, I cooked and played 😊

Day 2 / Tepozteco: I woke up early to hike to the Tepozteco Pyramid. I got a little lost on an alternative path and had to go back to the village by the road. Then I climbed up the countless steps and finally reached my destination, the Tepozteco Pyramid, with a beautiful view of Tepoztlan and the mountains. I tried a Tlacoyo at the mercado and spent the rest of the day relaxing, cooking, and going to bed early in the hostel hammock.

Day 3: I joined Sebastien (a French guy from the hostel) at 8 am to go to San Juan Tlacotenco. After successfully finding the right bus, we were able to find the starting point of the hiking trail to Cerro de la Luz by asking two different people on the street (two sources confirming the same thing are more reliable than one source). The trail was fairly easy and we only encountered one person in the forest. The views of the surrounding landscape from various viewpoints were very beautiful. Eventually, we ended up back at the Tepozteco Pyramids and returned to the hostel. In the afternoon, I went with several friends from the hostel to the neighboring village to do a Temazcal. Temazcal is a Mexican ritual that lasts about 1-2 hours and works like a sauna. Everyone sits in the tent, hot stones are placed in the middle and water is poured over them. Afterwards, I felt pretty good :) Back to the hostel, dinner, and staying up late (until 12) because I could sleep in the next day (and woke up at 8).

Day 4: After waking up, I still wasn't sure where to go next. I decided on Oaxaca and took a bus to Cuautla, arrived there at 12 noon, and had to wait 12 hours for the night bus to Oaxaca 😖
