The Pragser Wildsee in South Tyrol is the highlight of the Hochpustertal, next to the Three Peaks. Incredible colors, surrounded by the mountains of the Pragser Dolomites, and a calm atmosphere characterize this unique mountain lake. Its fame has increased especially due to the Italian TV series "Un Passo Dal Cielo" with Terence Hill, where it serves as the main shooting location.
The approximately 36-meter-deep Pragser Wildsee is located in the Prags Valley, a side valley in the Pustertal, which can be reached by car from the Pustertalstraße between Niederdorf and Welsberg. The Pragser Wildsee can also be reached by bus, especially in summer there is a good connection. There is no train connection to the Prags Valley.
An circumnavigation of the Pragser Wildsee is the perfect afternoon trip in Hochpustertal. At a leisurely pace, you can already circumnavigate the dream lake of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park in 30 minutes. No special equipment, such as mountain boots, is required to admire this natural wonder from all sides.
If you want it romantic, I can only recommend a boat trip.
Maybe a bottle of champagne with you and toast in the middle of the Pragser Wildsee to the unique mountain world of the Dolomites. You can rent these small rowing boats directly at the lake and start paddling immediately. You can definitely treat yourself to the price of such a boat, as a half hour costs 10 euros and a full hour costs 15 euros.
Starting point for mountain tours
Not only admire the surrounding mountains, but also reach them directly from the lake. The Pragser Wildsee is therefore a starting point for some mountain tours. Some of these mountain tours are easy in terms of difficulty, while others require a certain amount of skill and endurance.
The Seekofel is probably the most famous mountain at the Pragser Wildsee. It is located on the south shore and complements the magnificent picture of this mountain lake with its mighty mountain massif. It is no coincidence that most pictures are shown from the south shore.
Other hikes and mountain tours that start directly from the lake are as follows: Hochalpenkopf, Hochalpensee, Herrstein, Seekofelhütte, Senneshütte, Großer Rosskopf, Plätzwiese, Hochalpensee.
Color dreams, unique views, peace and relaxation come true at the Pragser Wildsee. If you have never had the chance to experience this natural wonder, I can only recommend planning a day trip on your next stay in South Tyrol.
