I had the crazy idea that we would go to Cathedral Cove beach in the north of the North Island on Tuesday and look at the beautiful area. But there is likely to be storm damage on the coasts and it is unclear which areas are accessible. Instead, we decided on a little trip to Lake Taupo in the best weather. First we drove a bit by car to our starting point and then hiked through the “wilderness” to Rangatira Point. There you have a beautiful view of Lake Taupo and the Tongariro National Park. We only met a few people. We experienced pure nature and, above all, peace - except for the whipping waves of the lake. But it wasn't completely safe either. The paths were quite steep and rocky/woody in places and slopes sometimes ran deep down. It was really nice to move a little away and linger. The view of the snowy Mount Doom (😁) or Mount Ruapehu rounded off the experience. Lord of the Rings fans know what I'm talking about. The companions are on their way to destroy the one ring...
In the afternoon we headed to Huka Falls. The Waikato River is the longest river in New Zealand. This narrows, creating rapids that shoot down 200,000 liters per second. It was okay, but we liked the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen better 😁.
We spent the evening comfortably on our balcony 😊.
Good night from Wellington 😴
