Hiking over many bridges and boardwalks

Pubblicato: 23.01.2024

Hello everyone :-) we completed the three days of hiking and then treated ourselves to three days of rest.

The hike was strenuous but beautiful! This time a little less wildlife, but an impressive landscape. This time I particularly admire Muesli: There were 4 wooden viaducts and 8 large and several small suspension bridges to conquer! Cheers!!! A plus from Muesli's point of view was that the place hosting this hike is called New Zealand's sausage capital. In the evening at the second hut we treated ourselves to two bratwursts. In general, the huts were really great with nice hosts and good beds.

We liked the second day of hiking best. The slopes were not as steep downhill as uphill and the beginning high up in particular was exceptionally scenic. At the beginning it went through forests that seemed as if an orc would come jumping from the side at any time and then you came out of the forest and looked into the distance - to the sea, over the forests,...!

We were also lucky with the weather. While it was below 0 degrees at night at the first hut at over 900m, we had great hiking weather on those days. It only started to rain in the last half hour of the third day.

As you can see, I couldn't decide on the pictures either. But you can just decide whether you want to watch them all ;-).

After 62km and ~1000m up and down, we enjoyed putting our feet up, watching the European Handball Championship, drinking coffee and reading. Tomorrow we start for Stewart Island. Now with the next challenge: While on the first hike on Akaroa we only had to carry the daypack, on the Humpridgetrack we already had all the clothes, the food and the sleeping bag on our backs. On Stewart Island, the “kitchen”, the sleeping mats and the tent are added to the backpack.

Oh yeah: I'm not hungry anymore and it's warmer too :-). We also had another car change, now from red to silver.

Kalle fragt, was das Schwein da macht. Und ihm ist aufgefallen, dass immer ein Tapir zu sehen ist!

Kochrunde: Inga konnte Stewart Island glänzen - Angeberin.
