Our first tour started a bit late at 11:00 in Kals. The weather that day was perfect for our start time. First, we enjoyed a great pushing section over a ski slope. Really tough. After overcoming that, we wound our way along a pleasant dirt road to the Kerer Alm. This was the most enjoyable part of our uphill. In hindsight, the name Umkehreralm would have probably been better. From now on, we only pushed and carried our bikes further. At least, we were greeted at the top at the Hohen Tor with a breathtaking view of the Großvenediger and Großglockner.
With anticipation for the downhill, our interim balance was modest. Although we had already covered 1100 meters of elevation, 2/3 of the way still lay ahead of us. And as it turned out, we could not ride 1/3 of the way but had to push and carry our bikes along the Kalser Höhe down to the Kals-Matreier-Törl. An additional climb of about 100 meters of carrying passage sweetened the view for us.
Fortunately, we finally reached a rideable trail that led into a super flowing downhill towards Kals. Arriving exhausted at the bottom, we stopped at a snack station after 5h 35 min and treated ourselves to some well-deserved Fritattensuppe, Eierschwammerlgrestl, and Heidelbeerschmarrn.
We thought we would definitely take a break tomorrow and plan our next tour with a bit more thought.
