To avoid having a bad reputation, like 'We only went on a beach vacation', today we fully experienced the cultural program of Cairns.
We started at the Wildlife Dome, a small zoo in a glass dome above the casino. There, we admired native animal species up close and confirmed our acquired knowledge. We also gathered all our courage (especially Helene) and climbed to windy heights. Because amidst the trees and animals, there is an action-packed high ropes course, the highlight of which is a flying fox over the crocodile head of Goliath.
Filled with adrenaline, we said goodbye to the animals and moved on to the next attraction, a gallery that exhibited Aboriginal art. There, we looked at pictures that we cannot afford in this and the next life, and instead we only read the stories of the painters.
Inspired by the origin stories, we headed to the Cairns Museum to learn more about the city's development. The historical journey took us from early settlement beginnings through the Aboriginal tribes, the colonization by the English, the world wars, to resistances against rainforest clearance or the indigenous people against the intruders. With a lot of new knowledge, but not quite satisfied thirst for knowledge, we left the old museum building and headed towards the Esplanade.
We ended the day with a personal beer tasting 2.0😍
🍻 cheers 🍻
