Back to the roots: WG-Life in Blenheim

Pubblicato: 24.05.2017

Maybe you already have an inkling of how we solved our accommodation and job problem. Right, we called our Reedy. Of course, we were allowed to work with him again. After all, we were his "darlings". Managing the accommodation was also easy. The owner of a house, whom we got to know through our Czech colleagues, lovingly took us into his nice little cottage again. That was sorted now. Now we just had to tough it out for a few more weeks. In the meantime, we were enjoying an insanely cool flatshare life with a total of 9 other flatmates. Colourful characters from every corner of the world, let me introduce you to the cool gang:

-) Andrea from Chile and Reemy from France (they were a couple, unfortunately they broke up during our time in the house),

-) Ervine from France (a really cool guy),

-) Sarah from France (such a sweetheart :))

-) Ondra from Czech Republic (he recently started his career as a tattoo artist in Mexico)

-) Tom and George from Great Britain (very naive, thought dishes clean themselves),

-) Hana and Petra from Czech Republic (the toughest girls I know 😉),

-) Richard from Germany (never loses his cool) and

-) Seyfert from Bangladesh (a bit of a strange guy).

It was never boring, that's for sure. The "Saturday Night Parties" became a tradition and nobody even had to ask anymore. Every Saturday, it was clear that there was a party. First, we cooked together.

Every Saturday, we had traditional dishes from various countries on the menu. Czech garlic soup with cheese, Austrian cheese schnitzel with couscous, Chilean hot dogs with guacamole, delicious homemade special burgers with fries, French blanc de poulet and really tasty chili con carne. Of course, a dessert couldn't be missing. Besides banana split, apple strudel with vanilla sauce and cottage cheese pastries, there was also a delicious homemade mousse au chocolat 😊 mmmmmh, just writing about it makes my mouth water 😃

After a hearty dinner, there were house parties and late nights at the nightclub "Fairwethers".

One Saturday, the house party turned out differently than expected. Suddenly, a stranger walked in through the door out of nowhere. And behind them, another one, and another one, and another ... we couldn't believe our eyes ... it seemed endless.

And then suddenly, there were about 50 strangers in our house, who felt right at home and just took whatever they felt like from the fridge. It was really weird ... we didn't know what was happening. But we took it with humor and had a great time with everyone. One guy even tried to add me on Facebook. "Do you have Facebook,?" he asked. "No," I replied. The guy from Georgia couldn't believe it. "What? Everybody has Facebook," he wondered. I casually answered: "Not me... I prefer to write letters." 😃 Confused, he left. That night, some people also enjoyed their fair share of alcohol. Like Petra 😃 She stumbled and unfortunately lost her big toenail, which was then removed at the hospital the next day. Well ... she now has a little souvenir from New Zealand for sure. 😃

Our last day of work arrived and with joy but also with a tear in our eye, we handed over the scissors for the grapes. On the last weekend in the flatshare, Bibi's friend, Magda, surprised us with her travel mate, Manu, in our little cottage in Blenheim. We cooked wonderful baked vegetables with tartare sauce together and chatted about anything and everything late into the night.

For the last week that we wanted to spend in the house, the weather forecast announced the cyclone "Debbie". A really bad storm and heavy rains were supposed to come our way. We took this as an opportunity to go on a hike to Mount Victoria the day before and mentally prepare ourselves for "Debbie". The remaining days before our departure, we spent watching movies together 😊 Luckily, "Debbie" wasn't as bad as predicted.

In any case, we won't forget our flatshare life in Blenheim anytime soon. But now we were already looking forward to our new adventures. Where we went this time, you'll find out in my next blog.
