Hello everyone :)
Now I have already been with my host family for 3 months and in the last two weeks I have had some exciting moments alongside and during my work routine:
On a beautiful sunny morning, I drove about 10 minutes with a friend of my host mother, who had stayed overnight, then we went on a trail that initially led to a cliff. There we enjoyed the sun above us and the waves below us. Then we continued down the trail and jumped into the waves in a really beautiful wild rocky beach. That was a really good start to the day.
This week I had a somewhat exciting encounter with a fairly poisonous spider in our factory: I was just packing my bag, ready to go home, when I saw a pretty big, hairy spider crawling past the door. I immediately informed my colleagues, they looked quite surprised and fortunately quickly caught the spider. It turned out to be a male Sydney funnel-web spider, one of the two spider species in Australia whose bite can be deadly for humans if they don't get the antidote quickly enough. That was a pretty exciting experience.
In the meantime, in my free time, I went to the cinema with another German au pair and on the weekend, my Australian friend stayed overnight at my place because we went out for drinks in the city on Saturday night. Last weekend, I went to an electro-techno festival with my host mother, which took place not far from the farm. I worked in a cocktail bar all day on Saturday and on Sunday I was able to explore the festival a bit: The site was really perfect, with a river where you could cool off and six different stages. These areas were set up like tents or open air. In addition, the trees were decorated, tree swings were hung up, and hammocks. There were also many slow food trucks. It wasn't exactly my kind of music, but the people were all very open and in a good mood.
Now Christmas is actually getting closer! This week we will also decorate our house, the pictures will come in the next entry. We also want to drive through the streets next week and admire the Christmas decorations. Here, the Christmas decorations remind me a lot of America, as you know it from some movies, with flashing LEDs and inflatable Santa in the front yard. I will keep you updated.
Take care everyone, I miss you and see you very soon!
