Day 19 TELGRUC SUR MER 23.08.2022

Pubblicato: 23.08.2022

This morning, the view out of the window told us to stay in bed. It was foggy again. But since we had ordered breakfast for 9 o'clock, we got up. Breakfast was served in the landlady's living room. The fireplace was on and 2 spotted cats were running around our feet. Each of us got exactly as many fried eggs as we wanted, along with everything else! We don't need to discuss the price of 5 €!

Afterwards, we prepared our hiking gear and went to the bus stop, right next to our accommodation. The bus line 34 from Brest to Camerat-Sur-Mer was on time and the price corresponded to the information from the tourist office (2.50 €). The harbor of Camerat was already buzzing with tourist activity. Italian groups with flag bearers and restaurant guests enjoying beer and wine on the terraces completed the picture. The weather on the coast was also warmer and the sky more open. Thanks to our hiking map, we quickly found the decisive hiking trail GR 34 and left the town to walk along the coast. Up and down, on very rocky paths, and the views were magnificent! But unfortunately, they were frequently interrupted by massive remains of German defense installations from World War II. Even though some of them were built on medieval structures, they still radiate the madness of that war to this day. Such massive buildings made of concrete/cement, in such large numbers and with such strength, speak a clear language. And this was where the Americans launched their attack in Normandy! Even today, strategically important places are still used by the military, this time by the French! Does that change anything?

We continued hiking and were not alone. Many French and some German people were walking the same path. This was the second place where we heard our language. Most of the tourists were from our own country. It should be taken into account that the national pride of the French is different from ours. The bunkers and defense installations are partly used as museums or memorials. The German bus companies also stand out in the crowded parking lots at these locations! Here, it once again became clear to me that my father was an fighter pilot active in this area. If he ever talked about it, which was very rare, it was about his experiences in France! The war seems to play a role even with our alternative-minded hosts, as today we saw a very large number of modern tin-cast soldiers in the living room, still waiting to be painted. Meanwhile, Karin wants to get a massage in this house. But unfortunately, our French is not good enough to fill all the gaps in our knowledge.

We noticed this again today when we arrived back at the starting point Camerat-Sur-Mer after about 11 km and about 5 hours. There was a bus ready to go, which we were not expecting, and we only wanted to go home. Leave the tourist center and explore our hometown Telgruc-Sur-Mer in more detail. So we decided to go home spontaneously! On the way back, we realized that there are two stops in Telgruc and decided not to get off right next to our accommodation, but to take the second one so we would get to see more. What a miscalculation! We saw our quarters, tired as we were, and continued. Firmly believing that we would get off at the beach and thus be close to drinks and food! It was too late when we realized that the bus continued on the main road to Brest and the second Telgruc stop was outside the town. 'Gare d'Argol' was outside and was the recycling center in the middle of nowhere. The bus had been driving for three minutes, which according to my calculations (80 km/h bus speed) meant an extra 4 kilometers!!? And all on the main road, without a sidewalk or any alternative! Karin, speeding ahead, and me whining behind! She probably didn't want to listen to me! All my considerations (if only I had asked the bus driver, if only I had talked to the young man who was googling the same problem, ...) were just 'IF...BIKE CHAIN'! So we went on and added 4 more kilometers. My knee says hello!

But now we have been back in our favorite Wi-Fi pub for two hours, enjoying beer and gin and tonic, and looking forward to what tomorrow will bring!?

Ohje.. die 4km extra klingen wirklich überflüssig.. Hoffentlich nur dieses eine Mal passiert 😉
