Rennes - France Trip 2020

Pubblicato: 08.05.2023

Rennes - Historic Old Town and the Most Popular Market in France

Rennes, which has gained popularity not only through its football club, is a beautiful old city with many churches and narrow alleys. The crooked half-timbered houses in some alleys date back to the early 17th century and it seems as if they are standing on shaky legs.
Also worth seeing are the mentioned churches in Rennes. We visited the Notre Dame-en-Saint-Melaine in the north of the city. Since we are very enthusiastic church tourists, we also liked this church very much. Unfortunately, the cathedral of Rennes is closed due to renovation work.
Also highly recommended is the Place des Lices, the weekly market in the historic old town. On this weekly market, which is rightly considered the most popular one in France, you can find everything that fulfills the culinary heart. From all types of bread to cheese and seafood, you can find everything here. But now it was already time to go back home, but before that we made a stopover at an unusual accommodation. Our last destination is a castle near Le Mans.
The privately owned castle has a huge castle garden where you can take a walk or go horseback riding. It was very cool to stay in a castle. Fortunately, no castle ghost haunted us at night.
A last culinary point was still open and that was the lobster. Since we didn't manage to eat lobster in Brest, we tried our luck here. Actually, we found a restaurant with lobster dishes and set off.
And so I completed my culinary bucket list 100%! This is how our France vacation ends in this special summer. Traveling during the Corona pandemic was unimaginable for us at first, as our trip to Morocco was canceled over Easter.
Both Brittany and Normandy are very good for simply decelerating and escaping the hustle and bustle and stress. Due to the mask requirement in public places, we felt safe and had no fear of infection. Thank you for the wonderful days!
