Hello, dear ones!
Right now, I'm lying in the shade in Airlie Beach on the Pacific. There's a pleasant breeze blowing from the sea, so the temperature of 30°C is really comfortable. This is how I pass the time until 'my' sailing ship sets sail tonight at around 7:30 p.m. It will already be pitch black by then, as it's already starting to dusk here around 6:00 p.m. and twilight doesn't last long.
But let's start at the beginning:
Yesterday late in the morning, my plane took off from Sydney to Prosperpine. After a 2.5-hour flight and a three-quarter hour bus ride, I reached my second hotel - with a view of the sea!
Airlie Beach is very touristy and especially popular among backpackers. So there are plenty of pubs and bars! Unfortunately, the jet lag had me fully in its grip yesterday, so I just wanted to go to bed. Too bad ... but the vacation is going to last a while 😉!
But it's not only backpackers who like it here, sailors and excursionists also like Airlie Beach because it's one of the starting points for one or multi-day trips to the Whitsunday Islands. After all, that's the reason why I'm here!
So tonight, the schooner Solway Lass will start with me and about 25 other sailors on board - I'm looking forward to it!
I have no idea when I can get in touch with you again, as we won't be visiting any ports, but will be spending the next 3 days among the islands.
So see you soon!
