Akaroa at 26 degrees, the last rays of sunshine reflecting on the water, and I feel like having Fish & Chips too. I think the last time I had them was about 25 years ago in Leeds...
The craving didn't come out of nowhere, as the smell of fried fish was already in the air and the shop was in sight. So I went in and placed my order. That wasn't quite easy, though, because the guy at the counter, who reminded me of a mix between a sailor and an English hooligan, spoke English so fast that I couldn't understand anything! He simply wanted to know which fish I wanted. Since I didn't know any of them, I just told him to make me something tasty. I trust him on that.
Well, I ended up getting the cheapest one on the menu...
Packed in a proper paper wrapping, I headed towards the water...
It was delicious at first, but in the end, I really missed the malt vinegar that is always served with Fish & Chips in England. It makes the whole thing more bearable.
Luckily, I had a tasty craft beer called "Bookbinder Session Ale" to go with it. The Kiwis really know how to brew craft beer. It's very, very delicious!
