After saying goodbye to everyone in the weeks before my flight - grandmas, relatives, friends, and colleagues - I finally started on 09.07.18. There had to be one last Bavarian meal before departure, so I had roast pork with dumplings :D. Today was also the time to say goodbye to my family and my girlfriend :( . It wasn't easy, and maybe a tear or two was shed, but ultimately, I had to go. Shortly before takeoff, I received a message from each of my colleagues, which made me very happy.
The flights were actually quite uneventful, the only thing that dragged on was the nearly 4-hour layover in Dubai that just didn't seem to pass haha. On my flight from Dubai to Melbourne, I slept for the most part, so deeply that I almost missed breakfast.
Finally arrived in Melbourne, I immediately made my way to my accommodation. This would be my new home for the next 3 weeks. Luckily, my room/bed was ready, so I could leave my backpack at the hostel. My plan was to explore the city on foot and stay awake until evening to minimize the jet lag. It went well at first, but in the afternoon, I became too tired and ended up sleeping (Quite a big mistake hahaha). I was awake half the night and then tired the next day, but oh well, that's how it is :D.
My first days in Melbourne were spent walking around the city, visiting various sights, relaxing, enjoying the sun, and getting settled into my new adventure on the other side of the world. So, in the first few days, I visited Albert Park and the Formula 1 Pit Lane, the Royal Botanic Gardens where you can relax, the Shrine of Remembrance (war memorials for the fallen soldiers of World War I), and the skyline, which personally, I find very impressive.
