After more than five months without a vacation, it finally started again in October 2017! And this time in a direction we hadn't been before: the Caribbean, to Mexico!
We booked the whole thing through a travel agency; all inclusive, that is. Yes, I know. Package tourism, terrible :P But after the last two trips, it was nice not to worry about anything and to have all meals taken care of. Plus, we had planned a lot of excursions, which were almost too much for the two weeks we were there. But we wanted to see a little bit ;) So the plan was to go on an excursion about every second day and to relax on the days at the hotel. Some might wonder: Is all-inclusive worth it then? In this case, for us: Yes.
Mexico is not a cheap travel destination and eating out here is not necessarily very affordable, unlike in Thailand.
Goodbye, cold Germany - Viva Mexico!
Anyway, our flight finally departed on October 27th, from Stuttgart this time. The trip took us via Delta Airlines through Atlanta. Contrary to the often heard negative comments about this airline, the flight was unexpectedly good. The legroom could have been a bit more generous, but the food was very good and the service was great. The layover in Atlanta also went smoothly. Luckily, we had enough time for the immigration process, as it took quite a while. But we could calmly continue our flight to Cancun. Compared to the 8-hour flight to Atlanta, this one didn't take long and soon we landed at the airport in Cancun. Coming out of the airport into the open air, we actually expected to be hit by a wall of warm air. It was already dark, but that doesn't mean much. Surprisingly, the climate was very pleasant and even in long pants, it was comfortable. No signs of excessive humidity either. Well, well! Now we headed to Playa del Carmen. This was also our actual destination:
The Viva Wyndham Maya Beach Resort.
There was a surprisingly large crowd at the reception for that time. It was already 9:30 PM, but unfortunately we were not the only guests who wanted to check in. So we had to wait a while until we were finally allowed to enter our room. It was sparsely furnished, but big enough and clean.
