So, our last days on our expedition have begun and we have decided to relax properly and enjoy a bit of beach time. We headed to Ao Nang Beach in Krabi. The landscape is truly beautiful, but such tourist spots always have their disadvantages. It's crowded and quite expensive, the food isn't quite as tasty, and sometimes you experience real setbacks, bad luck, and mishaps. Like right on the way there. It's the day after Songkran in Thailand, the Hindu water festival. Once again, there are no taxis or Grabs at the airport, so we have to take the bus. It's meant to leave immediately and the journey should only take 45 minutes. In the end, we're on the road for over 3 hours and arrive at the hotel just after midnight. At Ao Nang Beach, you can't really swim, as jellyfish season has begun, the water is about 37 degrees warm, and at low tide, it's knee-deep at most. However, the beach is 12 km long and you can walk for hours enjoying the sunset. We also take a trip to Koh Pih Pih. The former backpacker island is truly a dream in terms of landscape but completely overcrowded. At least 50 boats are moored in the small harbor at lunchtime, and the secret beaches, such as Maya Beach, are full of people. The next day we take a longtail boat to Railey Beach. Our captain forgets the gasoline for the boat and has to turn back for 5 minutes and then swims to the shore and then back to the boat with the gas canister. He probably smoked too much grass or nibbled on the mushrooms that are found everywhere on Krabi and especially on Railey Beach. 😂 Otherwise, it's great, the hotel is fantastic, breakfast is amazing, a huge selection, and Thai food is by far our favorite. What we can slowly no longer bear is the heat, 38 degrees feels like over 40 degrees, and the constant calls of Taksi? Tuk Tuk? Massage?? Cheap, cheap..., Madame Tshirt? Hey Sir, buy something, and of course the ubiquitous YesMomSir...: it's really one word and serves as a way to address tourists in all 6 countries in every situation. We will spend the last three days in Bangkok.
