Eastenders Track & Barnett Park Cave

Pubblicato: 03.04.2024

Welcome back!

Another tour we did as a camping group was the Eastenders Track to Barnett Park Cave. This was my birthday wish - well, I definitely wanted to get some exercise and the cave was still on Sophia and Anna's to-do list.

The cave is located in the south of Christchurch right at the beginning of the chain of hills that lies there. The "hike" was nothing difficult or very long, but there were enough meters of elevation that I thought to myself: "I've done a little something and moved my body!" The path itself was very beautiful and since we were out relatively late, the light was very pleasant and a little playful.

The Kiwis had a pretty cool idea here, because at the beginning of the track there were 2 L canisters and a large water tub with a sign asking hikers to water the newly planted seedlings that are on the track. At the top, hikers can then leave the canisters and in this way the hiker can also do something good for nature.

For me, the highlight of this tour was definitely the moment when I heard the sounds of people on the rock - climbers! My fingers started itching and I went into the cave to look for routes and was really happy to watch the climbers for a while. It didn't last very long, but the few minutes were really nice.

A few benches were placed in the cave and from there we had a great view of the sea and the path we had taken before.

In the dark we went back to the cars and then back to the campsite. In total we were on the road for about 2 hours.

The weather was supposed to get a little colder and wetter in the next few days, which is why we wanted to visit the Antarctic Center. But there's more about that in the next post.
