Denia

Pubblicato: 04.09.2023

Friends of Sun,

The time has come - you'll get a few updates again about where I am and what I've experienced. The last two weeks have been particularly quiet. That was because it was louder and funnier around me.

The Sonnenschein tour group was in Denia for 1.5 weeks and we experienced so many fun and great things: snorkeling, deep water soloing, cliff jumping, wading, catamaran trip, tapas, games, a little culture.

However, before all these programs took place, there were 2 days of pure relaxation by the pool with beer, people and delicious food.

Come down first.

In the first few days we played a lot of games, bathed a lot in the pool and often went to the sea during the day to snorkel and feel a little salt water (even if the pool is a salt water pool, I mean the sea). Here we parked our things either on the beach or along bays in caves and then stayed in the water for several hours. I saw my largest gurnard ever at the snorkeling areas in Denia and we also spotted an octopus that didn't leave its position for several days.

After there was a heavy thunderstorm at the weekend and we caught the tail end of the storm in Mallorca, the temperatures also dropped from 37 degrees to a pleasant 30 to 27 degrees. We used these temperatures to take a closer look at Denia Castle and the city center.

Denia was particularly famous for its production of various vases, violas and other pottery in Roman times. The old drying and fire structures for this production can still be viewed at the castle.

Paul was on the hunt for some snapshots of the squirrels frolicking around the castle.

Afterwards we went to the city center and to the harbor, where we decided to spend the warm evening stuffing ourselves with all sorts of delicacies. TAPAS EVENING! For €20 per person you could order tapas here in 2.5 hours. The food was excellent and we tried our hand at the menu here.

Art about garbage in the harbor

In the harbor we saw an art project that includes a fraction of the garbage that was collected from the harbor in Denia. Very thought-provoking, I think.

I have already seen exactly the same figure in Barcelona and shared it with you. Do any of you know the background of this character? If you know anything about this, please let me know.

Since the temperatures were still pleasant, we decided to hike up El Montgó the following day under the leadership of PPP (hobby mountain guide Paul). This is the only and highest mountain around Denia and at around 750 meters it is not particularly high, but it should not be underestimated when you consider that the sea level is directly on the slope.

On the hike we discovered a cave, old buildings and the views around were truly breathtaking.

The tour took around 7 hours in total and after 30,000 steps all of our legs and feet were a bit tired. Luckily, you only have to sit while boating, so we booked a catamaran trip into the sunset that same evening.

It was nice to sail along the coast, which we have always used for snorkeling in the last few days.

The sailing trip was a wonderful tour and some of us survived it dry.

On the last day together we went again to a more distant bay where there was a huge cave where you can also climb.

What can I say, this day was a great ending. We were in the water for 3 hours, swam to distant beaches and were able to leave a lot of strength and skin behind in the cave while doing deep water soloing. It wasn't quite as high but that didn't affect the adrenaline rush or endorphins in any way. It was a day on which the soul not only dangled, but actually rocked.

With this in mind, a big thank you again to all my friends and the wonderful people who became friends this week.

The next day I went further south on my own towards Murcia and the national park.

But I'll tell you about that in my next post.

Your Britta
