Traveling is discovering that everyone is wrong about what they think about other countries.

We like to drive in the evening and overnight, so we started from home a day late on Monday, September 18, 2023 at around 6 p.m. Just get going and see how far we get - we'll find somewhere to stay overnight.

Shortly before our departure we had booked the e-vignette for the Czech Republic for 30 days - €22 - at home.

Shortly before Prague we decide to eat something. Restaurants on Monday around 9 p.m. - rather bad. We get off the highway in Lovosice and find a beer bar “Pivnice Sarajevo” with typical Czech food and of course beer.

We are amazed at the price. We pay just €16.50 for 2 meals and 3 beers - so it's worth going to smaller towns.

We drive a bit more, but then decide to look for a place to stay overnight, which we found on a small lake behind Prague

Hubačovský rybnik - overnight stay

Without any further stops we continue through Austria and Slovenia to Croatia. Tip for the toll in Austria: Better buy the 10-day vignette directly at the gas station for €9.90. We wanted to order the vignette online in advance, but found that we would only pay €9.60, but plus agency costs of €8.35. Slovenia bought at the petrol station toll for 30 days - €36.00. Then quickly to Istria, Croatia. Right by the sea we find a small stand in Zambratija on the beach around midnight.

We continue to the planned Camp Kanegra. The place is, as described, very clean, friendly staff, sanitary facilities top.

We get a spot in the first row with a sea view, which wasn't our first choice. Our favorite was booked by someone who had reserved the entire season, which we were only told when booking. Our tip: It's best to choose several places.

Beach is very nice, we can imagine that it gets quite crowded in season.

The plan was to stay for 2 nights, but we're still leaving the next day because there's a storm front coming up and we somehow can't get a feeling for the place. The first row is separated from the beach by the busy main camping road.

One of our travel goals is to look for suitable locations for yoga retreats. That's why we take the small detour and the very adventurous journey to Villa Ananda in Mali-Kosi.

After visiting the villa on our tour south, stopover in Mošćenička Draga at the Al Ponte Konoba restaurant. Definitely not recommended. The food was cold, the portions were clear, the service was clearly friendly, but quite expensive.

We find our next place to stay overnight in Karlobag in the parking lot between the harbor and public beach. This cozy little place is just right for us. Nice little restaurant - Konoba Ribar - with fair prices.

A little tip for overnight stays with a camper: Free from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., but an inspection comes early, so it's better to throw in a little more money if you're standing longer. We had €4 from 8:45 p.m. to 9:45 a.m. the next day.

Following in the footsteps of our “past” 😊, we drive to Split. Since we were only there for half a day years ago, we want to take another look at the beautiful old town. We found parking right on the beach near the harbor, an advantage of the low season, despite it still being quite busy.

A really nice sandy beach awaits us there, but we don't want to be here during the season.

So I quickly hopped into the water and then went into town.

Beautiful city - colorful hustle and bustle. Even the market was still open. Fresh fruits and vegetables. Honey, olive oil and much more.

Then the disappointment ☹. We quickly pass our little snack on the harbor wall, the water smells eerily like a sewer and you can see the "leftovers" floating around in it.

We go back to the car: A greeting from the city administration: 10 minutes over the parking time (ticket) - €9.60 extra. The parking attendant still laughs at us maliciously. Well maybe they'll use the money for a sewage treatment plant.

Our conclusion: It's a shame, the actually beautiful city deserves more.

So continue south.

After 2 hours of driving we find a small parking lot to spend the night, free from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. We have the space through park4night. A very good app for finding places to stay and more. However, you should read several reviews of the places.

TIP for Croatia: it is better to use a designated parking space. The other “wild” places are increasingly being monitored and fined.

Our evening in Drvenik was great. The evening was warm, nice little bistro right across the street by the sea.

Then a walk through the town.

I love palm trees

After the round in the harbor we order two glasses of red wine in a small restaurant by the sea. It is a place frequented by locals. Always a good sign for us. The landlady is very nice and brings us our two red wines, a glass of ice (the red wine was a little too warm) and 2 glasses of water. The whole thing for €5.

The next day we leave very early. Our next destination is the Vucine auto camp in Zuljana. The reviews are promising and we want to take another 2 day break before we head to our actual destination, Albania.

We pass the very fertile delta of the Neretva River. There are lots of stalls with fresh fruit and vegetables on the side of the road.

When you arrive at the camp you are greeted in a very friendly manner and find a great parking space. A bit adventurous with a 6 meter camper, but it works. We should take our time setting it up and it's enough if we log in in the evening. That's great for us because we haven't had breakfast yet.

Our breakfast - daily healthy meal from Herbalife, yoghurt, fruits...

The day turns out differently than planned. We are surprised by violent thunderstorms that last all day and night, so we are forced to stay in the camper. Time to write, read and play.

Pushing beads

It'll be until the next midday before the sun comes out again and now we're finally heading to the beautiful bays with our SUP boards. The water is warm and we enjoy the sun.

Abandoned vines - grapes with seeds - great taste - not experienced for a long time.
