Our Sami bear is becoming an early riser in Australia. Michi and he take a walk on the beach and hills in the early morning. After a small breakfast, we leave shortly after 8 o'clock.
We really enjoyed our overnight stay at the bush camp. Solitude in beautiful scenery is simply our dream of traveling/vacationing!
Michi and I have decided last night that we will change our travel route due to the current 14-day school holidays in Western Australia. On the way north, we will skip Coral Bay/Exmouth/Ningaloo Reef/Cape Range National Park for now. This region is the highlight of our trip and we don't necessarily want to share it with countless tourists. We hope that it will be quieter on the way back to Perth in 2 weeks.
Today, we want to head towards Carnarvon. On the way there, we will stop at Hamelin Pool. A short path leads to the stromatolites. These are fossilized deposits that are estimated to be among the oldest known fossilized organisms on Earth, with an age of about 3,000 years.
In the camper, we have ham and cheese toast for breakfast, and then we set off towards the north around noon. It's another long stretch of straight road. A road and a landscape as far as the eye can see! There is a roadhouse (gas station with a small shop and restaurant plus campground) about every 50-100 km. The two youngest ones are fast asleep. They missed out on their nap in the past few days. They're probably making up for it now.
We're making better progress than expected, so we only make a stop in Carnarvon for supplies. We empty our toilet at the public dump point, fill up the camper with gas, and do some shopping at Woolworths.
Then we continue to Point Quobba and the Blowholes (about 75 km north of Carnarvon). The Blowholes are really worth seeing! Samuel especially liked them a lot. The waves are forced through the holes in the rocks with tremendous force, creating fountains up to 20 meters high. Michi gets too close and gets completely soaked.
We set up our campsite at the Blowholes Campground at Point Quobba (1 km south of the blowholes). We choose a spot at the beginning of the area. We're not alone here, but we have a nice view of the sea. The 11 AUD camping fee per adult will be paid to the ranger in the evening.
We take a sunset walk on the beach. It's quite windy here and it has also gotten a bit cooler. In the shallow water, we can see small sharks. Back in the camper, we cook chicken with noodles and salad. We're all pretty exhausted and go to bed early.
