20.08. Return of the motorhome, trip to Dortmund

Pubblicato: 21.08.2022

Today we're trying to get up early, it's going to be a long day. Under some stress, we pack our suitcases and all the loose stuff (there's a lot) into the motorhome and after a thorough cleaning (the onboard toilet even goes into a cleaning machine - that didn't exist in all of Denmark!) we set off towards Steinhagen to our landlord Julian.

He's eagerly awaiting his mobile vehicle (he has many of them, we counted at least 5). We're a bit stressed because Flo, risking his life, fought hard for 2 tickets for the Bundesliga match Borussia Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen in Dortmund.

When we arrive in Steinhagen, it's exactly 12 o'clock and with united forces we start loading our living room into our car. In the end, the bicycles come and unfortunately, the accident happens: Flo securely tied the bicycles to the carrier with a bicycle lock. When opening, the key breaks in the lock and Flo's bike is inevitably stuck to the motorhome.

Now the tinkering hour begins - first we try with long-nose pliers and screwdriver. No chance. Then Julian arrives with a mighty bolt cutter. He might have strong arms (Julian, not the cutter), but unfortunately the lock is of the secure type (that's why we still have our bicycles, maybe).

Unfortunately, the only option left is to dismantle the rear suspension and the bike is free. Flo now has a dismantled bike and Julian has a bike lock on the motorhome. The flex might have to be used...

We leave with an hour's delay and quickly arrive in Dortmund (fortunately there's no speed limit - finally something good on German motorways).

The girls drop off Felix and Flo at the 'Signal Iduna Park' (that's the stadium) and continue to the city center for shopping. The boys make it just in time for kick-off at the stadium (mega queue at the entrance). But the match becomes an unforgettable experience. The 81,500 fans are incredibly loud - you can't understand your own words.

We even witness a historic event: Werder is 0-2 down until the 88th minute and turns the game around to 3-2 in the last 5 minutes - that has never happened in the history of the German Bundesliga. Totally ecstatic Werder fans and beer shower included!

After the obligatory visit to the fan shop, we then fight our way through the car parade out of Dortmund. We still have three and a half hours drive to Bamberg ahead of us. We arrive completely exhausted at 22:15.

Tomorrow we're heading straight home! Thanks to everyone for following and reading along!
