It rained during the night, but when we set off from the Grasleitenhütte after breakfast, it's dry. Lucky us! Goal for today: The Schlernhaus. Only 8 kilometers away, but they are tough. First, we have to climb the Bear Trap. Very depressing to struggle with every meter with our backpacks and poles. And to be overtaken multiple times by various 60+ locals, as if they were just going to the supermarket. Mpffff... after the Bear Trap, we are so high up that the altitude is noticeable, every step is heavy, breathless. But a fantastic Kaiserschmarrn on the Tierser Alpl eases all pain - what a perfect lunch break ;-). After the break, the really hard part awaits: It starts out - to lull naive hikers like us into a false sense of security - relaxed and comfortable. But then! Another enormous ascent. When you look back, you can see the Tierser Alpl. When you look forward, you see the Schlernhaus. But somehow still sooo far away. When we eventually arrive, we are completely exhausted. And looking forward to dinner! A friendly shepherd from the area keeps us company as we drink schnapps together (must).
