After the jet lag caused some short sleeplessness at night, we started early. Over very steep mountain roads to Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach, and then on to Waihi. In the meantime, the cooling water in the VW bus boils three times. That's not normal, more on that later. In Waihi is the largest gold mine in New Zealand. A huge hole gapes in the ground, and initial stabilization measures have already been taken since the mine closed.
From there to Waihi Beach, a fantastic beach where all campers enjoy the evening sun. Spend the night behind the dune in a parking lot. It's pouring rain.
