In planning my tour to Warsaw yesterday, Komoot offered me a route of 116 kilometers. Surely, there must be a shorter way, and without cobblestones and loose terrain as well. So, I studied the map and put together my own route. And lo and behold, it’s even possible to do it in under 100 kilometers and at least almost without difficult surfaces.
The first third of the route ran parallel to the highway on a nearly empty road. I made good progress. There were also almost no reasons to take photos. However, I noticed the many wildlife crossings or tunnels for animals. The crossings were mostly very wide and well protected. Here, all kinds of animals can cross the highway. Of the tunnels, one of which I photographed, there were many more. At times, the distances between one and another were perhaps 100 meters or even less.
Then my journey took me through towns that probably aren’t found in any travel guide. In Niegow, I noticed a pretty church that even has benches in front of the building. As it was also time for my lunch break, I didn’t have to think long and turned towards a bench that was also in the sun. Out of pure curiosity, I tried to open the door to the church. And, oh what a surprise, the door opened, and I could enter.
For a while, I then continued along the highway. The closer I got to Warsaw, the more difficult the conditions became. Although there were many “bike paths,” I often couldn’t use them and had to resort to the road. Near the city, it got better, and from far away, I could already see the familiar silhouette. Unfortunately, there was no opportunity to stop and take photos; I had to concentrate on the road, other cyclists, and pedestrians.
Based on the preparations, I knew that, at the end of my tour, a special obstacle awaited me. To get from the road to the old town, I had to overcome a large staircase. But what joy when I saw that there is an elevator. However, the joy was short-lived; the elevator was too small for my large e-bike. So, I had to try to tackle the stairs after all. Fortunately, a young man helped me.
The hotel I was aiming for was directly across, and I had made it. However, the climbing of stairs continued in the hotel. I was rewarded with the view from my hotel room on the 3rd floor.
