Coffin Bay

Pubblicato: 06.04.2019

After a peaceful night at a highway rest area, we drive to Coffin Bay in the morning. We have booked an oyster farm tour there. We are given fancy rubber pants with integrated rubber boots, and then we go into the water. On the edge of the oyster banks, the farmer has installed a seating area. You sit on a bench in the dry, but your legs dangle in the water. There we learn a lot about oyster farming and the different types. Of course, we also eat a few of the freshly harvested demonstration objects. Very delicious! And the most important thing: we learn how to shuck an oyster! Not so easy, but with the right tools and technique, we both manage it. To conclude, we take a little walk through the oyster banks. Before we continue our journey, we sit on the terrace of the oyster cafe for a few minutes, enjoying the view over the bay and indulging in some treats.

Our path leads us to the Coffin Bay National Park. And there first to "Point Avoid". Maybe the name giver wanted to tell us something, but we still climb down to the bizarre rocks. A curious and awe-inspiring place. You can almost feel how the roaring waves erode the rocks beneath your feet.

We continue to Golden Island Beach. The view of the beach and the colors of the water are stunning. We take a walk on the beach, but unfortunately the waves are too high and the outside temperatures too low (18 degrees) for swimming.

In the late afternoon, we arrive at Yangie Bay on our campsite. From our pitch, which is located at the highest point of the site, we once again have a great view of the bay. After dinner, we take a walk in the twilight, hoping to see some interesting animals. But besides a lot of kangaroos, we don't see anything.
