1st stage from Salzburg to Werfen

Pubblicato: 13.07.2024

We had already started on Thursday from Sehnde to Salzburg. Deutsche Bahn had once again given us a surprise and of course promptly provided another train without a bicycle carriage. Instead, we were able to squeeze our bikes into a compartment (which just about fit) and it was then locked "for insurance reasons". We could also forget about our first class seat reservation. Luckily, there were exactly two seats for us in the compartment next door. Perfect. After the train left with a delay of around 40 minutes, the vacation could begin. Interestingly, the next day it turned out that a colleague from Hamburg was sitting next to Claudia, who was attending the same training course as Claudia. Really strange. When we arrived in Munich, of course no one would open the compartment for us at first - only when we asked was someone able to help us.

Unfortunately, this meant that our connection to Salzburg was also lost and we had another hour in Munich.

For the next 1.5 days, Claudia was on her training course while I explored the city of Salzburg.

On Saturday afternoon we were finally able to tackle the first stage. From Salzburg to Werfen. We made a short detour to Hellbrunn Palace with its famous water features. It was very beautiful and worth seeing. We then continued towards Golling. Unfortunately the sky was very overcast, but at least there was no rain. Overall a nice, relaxed route for the first day. From Golling we then continued by train to Werfen. Between Golling and Werfen there is no cycle path for 15km and you would have to struggle along a very narrow main road with a lot of traffic and trucks on the road - we avoided this and took the S-Bahn to Werfen. At the station a "native" wanted to swap his bike with Claudia... Well, of course that didn't happen (see photo). Today we are staying at the beautiful Reitsamer Hof. Tomorrow we will continue on the next stage.
