Slumber like wine

Pubblicato: 12.09.2023

Day 7

Burg-Zell Camping Park Mosel

A bed in between was also quite good. The start was around 9:00 a.m. and I didn't want to miss breakfast.😉 Today it was only 17 km, which was completely ok. But I didn't have any accommodation yet and according to the forecast there was going to be a thunderstorm in the evening 🤔. I have the feeling that the tourist information center is similar to the employment office, usually without success. I saw a picture of a barrel on the website of the campsite in Zell. And....yeah lucky, a barrel and that was free. I've always wanted to sleep in a barrel like this.

With a vineyard area of around 400 hectares and around four million vines , Zell (Mosel) is one of the largest wine-growing communities on the Moselle. The best-known location is the “Zeller Schwarzen Katz” and the wines that come from it are known all over the world because of their special quality and wholesomeness. The secret of the “Zeller Schwarzen Katz” begins in 1863, when wine merchants were traveling in Zell. After an extensive wine tasting in the winery, three barrels were shortlisted. But you couldn't really agree on which one was the best. The winemaker's wife finally came into the cellar, accompanied by a black cat.

Suddenly the cat jumped onto one of the barrels, arched his back and hissed at anyone who tried to approach the barrel. The merchants then quickly agreed and decided on the wine barrel that the black cat was guarding so stubbornly. A short time later, the same merchants came back to Zell and bought all the wines from the same vineyard site as those in the barrel that the cat had so fiercely defended because this wine had found huge sales. The location in which this wine was grown was eventually called “Zeller Schwarzen Katz”.

Just for information about what the city of Zell and the black cat mean.

Somehow I immediately felt comfortable in and in front of my barrel. I didn't feel like going out to eat anymore. Tonight we have low carb and high fat.😅. There were pepper bites and cheese cubes, a few grapes from today's harvest and of course a glass of wine.

Now it's just before eight, it's raining and humming up there. And I'm so happy with my keg.

It's right on the Moselle and the birds around are really active in this weather. There's chattering and peeping everywhere.

I hope to sleep as well tonight as the wine in the barrels.
