Now we have reached the final stop of our journey - Hong Kong.
After the peaceful and quite lonely New Zealand, this city overwhelms us with its hustle, noise, and busyness. Nevertheless, it is fascinating how many people live in a relatively small area there.
On our first day, we decide to have a personal guide, who should give us insider tips on restaurants, shopping, and public transportation in 3 hours. It wasn't quite fruitful as we had communication problems on both sides and he was busy with his phone rather than with us old ladies. 😂 But at least he recommended to us the nightly light show and the trip to an outlying island called Cheung Chau.
The trip there was definitely worth it, especially the ferry ride. However, it was tainted by the persistent smog that covers all of Hong Kong and the outlying islands.
Cheung Chau is and still is inhabited by fishermen, and in recent years, more and more tourists have come, along with the associated restaurants and souvenir shops. Nevertheless, this island is very peaceful and offers its residents a nice relaxation opportunity with small sandy beaches and bays.
In the evening, we take the cable-drawn tram up the steep hill to get another view of Hong Kong from above. A nice ending before we head to the airport.
Now we are sitting at the gate and flying towards Frankfurt at 23:40 (16:40 CET). Home sweet home.
