I actually left Chicago yesterday for New York. The time in Chicago was great. The city is amazing. I had that feeling, what I missed last year in New York. WOW. You're walking around that amazing architecture and you can't stop starring up. Chicago is like a canyon of stone, steel and glass.
Chicago is called the Second City, because a fire destroyed the old city. So it was the right time to build a new city on the old spot. I can understand why Nolan choose this city for his Batman movie. For me it looks like Gotham City.
The Chicago Theater is actually one of the shooting places of the movie.
Of course I did the sightseeing stuff. But at the cloud gate it's crazy! What a mess... ;)
I met Peter from Austria there. He was doing a timelapse. He's riding down the Route 66 on a Harley and try to do a Special Project. Check out his page.
Nice selfie, isn't it? ;)
Next to the Cloud Gate you have the Millennium Park. The fountain there is very special. ;)
Yes it's animated!
Chicago is also the birth place of Blues. There are still a few good clubs there. I was in Kingston Mines. The club is simple. Small tables, big bars and a lot of standing space. There are two stages. The music switches between the stages and all the people moving with them.
You can also find a lot of street art. There is a designated spot at Wabash Street.
So what else is special in that city? Did you know there is also a big underground walking system in Chicago? It's called the Pedway. It's built to escape the cold in the winter. I've only seen that once before in Toronto. Unfortunately it's very confusing and I needed a lot of asking and searching, till I found the spot below.
The Public Transportation is great in Chicago. Bus, Subway and the 'EL'. The EL (L for Loop) is the highline in the City.
So at the end some impressions from the city.
Chicagohenge - an equinox sunset. Sun is going down in the end of September in the middle of the street!
