From the tranquil Siem Reap in Cambodia, we head to Bangkok, the metropolis in Thailand. If Saigon was already big, then Bangkok is even bigger in every way.
We immediately notice that the city is very clean. We had expected to arrive in a loud, chaotic and dirty city, but the opposite was true. Our accommodation is located in the same district where Marcia was about eight years ago. However, the district has changed a lot since then. The coffee shops stand out in particular. The entrance to our hostel is one of them.
Marcia thinks that prostitution was a bigger issue eight years ago. Today, it is less visible. I, for one, feel much more comfortable and safe in the city than I expected.
We spend three days in the city and mostly walk around. We only use tuk-tuks to change districts. We also take a small boat tour to visit a floating market.
We practically need a whole day to visit three shopping malls. Compared to that, the Westside in Bern is a small "shop".
The city is extremely diverse, and there are cool parks, buildings, and stores to discover everywhere.
Bangkok really surprised me. The city definitely deserves a better reputation.
