28.08.17 - 01.09.17 #Bratislava

Buga: 06.09.2017

Hello dear ones ♡

I am glad that you have found your way to my blog and want to accompany me a little on my journey through Eurasia!

So that you can not only read, but also look (or just look ;) I will try to upload lots of pictures.

Have fun reading & watching and feel free to comment as well ;)

Our arrival

- Judith at Berlin Central Station -

My travel companion for the first nine days is Judith, my best school friend. So it's time again: Hedith! (Little insider - let's see if Judith notices)

We start at 6:30 from Hanover - and the first shock: the train is 40 minutes late, so we will miss our connecting train in Dresden. That's why we're continuing via Berlin... afterwards everything goes according to plan and we survive the almost 12 hours train ride quite well :)

The train ride goes along the Bohemian Switzerland in Saxony - a little sightseeing from the train window ;)

Finally arrived

- Graffiti art on Bratislava's most famous bridge -

Finally arrived in Bratislava, the city surprises us. I think Judith even expected more Eastern Bloc feeling than me, but actually Bratislava turns out to be a beautiful capital. There are parks and fountains everywhere. Along the Danube a new shopping center with luxurious apartments was built. On the ground floor facing the river, there is one restaurant after another, making the whole Danube promenade our favorite place for relaxation & picnics during the next days.

- the bridge of the Slovak National Uprising over the Danube -

All shops in the city center are super modern and hip - it's almost hard for us to find a traditional Slovak restaurant.

- one of the wider streets in the Old Town -

In one of the restaurants we had 'Bryndzové halušky' and a pasta dish inspired by it. It is small dumplings made of potato dough in a sheep cheese sauce with bacon - and yes, it tastes as delicious as it sounds ;)

- Pasta after 'Bryndzové halušky' art-

- a 'hipster' cafe -

Unfortunately, we had a bit of bad luck because both on the first full day we were there and on the day of departure, it was a public holiday in Slovakia. We were quite surprised when we realized that no shops were open. On August 29th, we celebrate the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising: Apparently, it is about the uprising against the German Wehrmacht in World War II. On the occasion of the holiday, a stage was set up in the evening in front of the monument of the Slovak National Uprising (the topic is very present here), where folksingers performed first, followed by a DJ. Around the stage, there were anti-Nazi signs, but there were also pro-Palestine posters. The whole event seemed a bit confusing, and only Wikipedia could really clarify what the holiday stands for.

- note the banner on the left of the stage -

All in all, Bratislava gave me a great start: the city is simply great, very livable, and I can only recommend everyone to take a look ;)

The next travel report will come soon from Vienna!
