After our beautiful time in Glencoe and the remarkable Highlands, we continue our journey through Scotland. Today, we want to drive to the Isle of Skye, but before that, we will make a detour to the Glenfinnan Viaduct. The Hogwarts Express traveled along this viaduct, and as a loyal Harry Potter fan, a visit here is a must. The viaduct is located between Fort William (where we were before our unplanned car exchange) and Mallaig. If you don't want to spend money on parking at the Visitor Centre, you can simply drive a short distance until you see a small, free parking lot on your right hand side. From here, you can walk to the viewpoint, where you have a perfect view of the 380-meter long and 30-meter high Glenfinnan Viaduct.
After refueling with coffee, we continue towards the Isle of Skye. The landscape changes from green mountains to barren rocks. Just before the bridge to the Isle of Skye, we pass Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland that has also been used as a film location multiple times. As a result, it attracts a large number of tourists, and we decide to make another stop here when we leave the Isle of Skye and hopefully haven't already had several hours of driving behind us. Instead, we cross the bridge to the Isle of Skye and head to Glenbrittle Campsite. This campsite is natural and located right by the sea, and it welcomes us with sunshine and unfortunately also strong winds - a celebration of our now experienced tent-building skills :)
The next morning, we decide to drive a bit further along the island. The first must-visit is the Talisker Distillery, where a famous single malt whisky is produced. We take a tour and learn a lot about whisky distilling - tasting is explicitly allowed (of course, only for the non-driver).
The next stop is Dunvegan Castle, but again, a significant entrance fee is required. Since the castle is not a priority for us, we continue to the Skye Camping and Caravanning Club Site. We quickly grow fond of this campsite and decide to stay here for three nights to relax and immerse ourselves in the island.
